Me and Bobby McGee

Me and Bobby McGee was originally written by Kris Kristofferson and has been recorded by many artists since, including Janis Joplin, Willie Nelson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kenny Rogers and Pink.

I feel like the original version is much more authentic, it has the sound of authentic blues music and he keeps a low mellow voice throughout the song.  The band playing in the original is pretty simple and doesn’t have drums playing, which we had learned wasn’t a part of country or blues until later.  I feel like the guitar is the main focus of this version.

Pink’s version of Me and Bobby McGee is preformed similarly without a lot of changes in the band; i really like the depth that she adds vocally.  I wouldn’t consider this version authentic, mainly because the way she has performed it doesn’t come across as classic blues, and I don’t think she has spent much time in Battenrouge.
