TESTIFY BY COMMON: A VIDEO WORTH WATCHING IN 2008!

I LOVE THE TESTIFY VIDEO BY COMMON THAT DEBUTED IN 2005. THE VIDEO TAKES VIDEOS BACK TO THE CORE OF WHAT THEY USED TO BE: AUTHENTIC, MEANINGFUL, AND CREATIVE! VIDEOS THESE DAYS ARE JUST SO LACK LUSTER AND ARE RARELY EVEN CONNECTED TO THE TRACK AND ITS LYRICAL CONTENT. IE THE VIDEO I MENTIONED IN CLASS: I REMEMBER BY KEYSHIA COLES. THE KEYSHIA COLES VIDEO HAD NO STORYLINE, NO PURPOSE, AND NO MEANING! I COULD HAVE PUT TOGETHER A HOTTER VIDEO THAN THAT WITH MY VIDEO PHONE! LOL! BUT IN ANY EVENT BACK TO COMMON AND HIS MASTERPIECE. THE VIDEO FOLLOWS THE SONG AND ITS LYRICS. THE STORY LINE IS THAT A DRUG DEALER’S WIFE SET HER HUSBAND UP AND HAD HIM SERVE TIME FOR A CRIME THAT SHE COMMITTED! THE WIFE SITS IN THE TRIAL THE ENTIRE TIME AND TRIES TO PLAY THE INNOCENT WIFE IN DESPAIR THAT DECLARES HER HUSBAND IS INNOCENT. WHEN HE IS FOUND GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES SHE HOLDS HER HEAD DOWN IN DESPAIR AND THEN RAISES IT WITH A MALICIOUS GRIN….SHE GETS UP FROM HER SEAT AND MAKES HER WAY TO THE DOOR WHILE LIGHTING A CIGARETTE AND CUTTING HER EYES AT EVERYONE IN A WAY THAT SAYS “YOU FOOLS, IT WAS I WHO EXECUTED THOSE MURDERS!” SHE LEAVES THE COURTROOM TRIUMPHANTLY AND THE PROSECUTOR CHASES AFTER HER IN HOPES TO SPEAK WITH HER BECAUSE HE READ HER BODY LANGUAGE. THE VIDEO HAS SILVER SCREEN ACTORS AND ACTRESSES PLAYING THESE ROLES. COMMON REALLY STEPPED HIS GAME UP WITH THIS VIDEO. I REMEMBER SEEING IT IN 2005 AND BEING EXTREMELY PROUD OF HIM. THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF A GOOD, RELEVANT, QUALITY VIDEO! A+ FOR COMMON!

  1. i’ve always enjoyed common’s music. I feel like he’s made a successful transition to mainstream music although many of his fans from his early career days might refer his present day career as to “selling out”. I think it’s difficult for artist to constantly make music for a specific niche market of listeners. With trends in music constantly changing just like the trends in fashion, artists have to constantly reinvent themselves and adapt to the times and the evolution of music technology in the industry.
