Meaningless Music

A song this year that hits my worst of 2008 list of songs is Madonna ft Justin Timberlake & Timbaland’s song 4 minutes. Seeing that the three super artists make a super power collaboration, I guess I had high expectations for this single. The song begins as a typical girl meets guy scenario…i need you…u want me…this is what you need to do…lyrical script but then at the start of the chorus the lyrics become arbitrarily meaningless. “Time is waiting…We only got 4 minutes to save the world”, the only saving I think they should be doing is saving people’s ears from hearing this horrible song. Maybe, I’m being a little too harsh because recently I had a argument about this song with my friend who claimed that it was one of her favorite songs.  She was surprised that I didn’t like the song and proceeded to try to convince me why and her only defense was that the beat was really good. When I don’t like something especially a song it’s hard to convince me otherwise.  I think the beat is mediocre, the music video irrelevant, and the lyrics…poor. This is only my opinion and I will leave it up to you to make your own conclusion about the song.

Lyrics:

(Timbaland:)

I’m outta time and all I got is 4 minutes(x8)

Come on
Yeah
Break down
Come on

(Madonna:)
Come on boy
I’ve been waiting for somebody
To pick up my stroll

(Justin:)
Well don’t waste time
Give me a sign
Tell me how you wanna roll

(Madonna:)
I want somebody to speed it up for me
Then take it down slow
There’s enough room for both

(Justin:)
Well, I can handle that
You just gotta show me where it’s at
Are you ready to go
(Are you ready to go)

(Madonna & Justin:)
If you want it
You come and get it
If you thought it
It better be what you want
If you feel it
It must be real just
Say the word and help me give you what you want

(Madonna & Justin:)
Time is waiting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
Grab a boy
Grab a girl
Time is waiting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
We only got 4 minutes, 4 minutes

(Madonna & Justin:)
Keep it up, keep it up, don’t be a pri, hey
Madonna, uh
You gotta get `em all hot
Tick tock tick tock tick tock
That’s right, keep it up, keep it up, don’t be a pri, hey
Madonna, uh
You gotta get `em all hot
Tick tock tick tock tick tock

(Madonna:)
Sometimes I think what I need is a you intervention, yeah

(Justin:)
And you know I can tell that you like it
And that it’s good, by the way that you move, ooh, hey

(Madonna:)
The road to heaven is paved with good intentions, yeah

(Justin:)
But if I die tonight
At least I can say I did what I wanted to do
Tell me, how bout you?

(Madonna & Justin:)
If you want it
You come and get it
If you thought it
It better be what you want
If you feel it
It must be real just
Say the word and im a give you what you want

(Madonna & Justin:)
Time is wasting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
Grab a boy
Grab a girl
Time is wasting
We only got 4 minutes to save the world
No hesitating
We only got 4 minutes, 4 minutes

(Madonna & Justin:)
Keep it up, keep it up, don’t be a pri, hey
Madonna, uh
You gotta get `em all hot
Tick tock tick tock tick tock
That’s right, keep it up, keep it up, don’t be a pri, hey
Madonna, uh
You gotta get `em all hot
Tick tock tick tock tick tock

(Timbaland:)
Breakdown
Yeah
(tick tock tick tock tick tock)
Yeah, uh huh
(tick tock tick tock tick tock)
I only got 4, minutes to save the world

One Response to “Meaningless Music”

  1. ummm I agree.
The only reason that this song is doing well is because of the roster of Artists that participated in it.
The music video lacks a plot, it is meaningless and the only reason you can watch it is because of the effects.
I think that current pop artists are hitting a wall, and should let in some new talent because frankly this is sad to watch.
